Low temperature STM on InAs (110) accumulation surfaces

چکیده
The properties of InAs (110) surfaces have been investigated by means of low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. A technique for ex-situ sulphur passivation has been developed to form an accumulation layer on such a surface. Tunneling spectroscopy at 4.2 K shows the presence of 2D subbands in the accumulation layer. Measurements in high-magnetic field demonstrate Landau quantization of the energy spectrum, both in the 2D subbands and the 3D bulk conduction band. PACS: 73.20.Dx, 61.16.Ch, 71.70.Di

Correlation between atomic - scale structure and mobility anisotropy in InAs / Ga 1 2 x In x Sb superlattices
We have performed detailed characterization of atomic-scale interface structure in InAs/Ga12xInxSb superlattices using cross-sectional scanning tunneling microscopy ~STM! and established a semiquantitative correlation between interface structure and transport properties in these structures. Quantitative analysis of STM images of both ~110! and (11̄0) cross-sectional planes of the superlattice in...
متن کاملRole of Hydrogen Bonding in the Formation of Adenine Chains on Cu(110) Surfaces
Understanding the adsorption properties of DNA bases on metal surfaces is fundamental for the rational control of surface functionalization leading to the realisation of biocompatible devices for biosensing applications, such as monitoring of particular parameters within bio-organic environments and drug delivery. In this study, the effects of deposition rate and substrate temperature on the ad...
متن کاملAtomic scale structure of InAs(001)-(2 4) steady-state surfaces determined by scanning tunneling microscopy and density functional theory
The structure of InAs(0 0 1)-ð2 4Þ surfaces equilibrated under typical MBE conditions is studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Depending on the magnitude of the As flux, typical surfaces are found to contain a mixture of a2ð2 4Þ and b2ð2 4Þ reconstructions. The relative populations of the a2 and b2 reconstructions are found to depend on substrate temperature and the magnitude of the A...
متن کاملNetworks of Steps on Au and Pt Crystals
Networks of steps, seen in STM observations of vicinal surfaces on Au and Pt (110), are analyzed. A simple model is introduced for the calculation of the free energy of the networks as function of the slope parameters, valid at low step densities. It predicts that the networks are unstable, or at least metastable, against faceting and gives an equilibrium crystal shape with sharp edges either b...

Growth and surface morphology of epitaxial Fe(110)/MgO(111)/Fe(110) trilayers constituting a magnetic tunnel junction were investigated by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). STM reveals a grain-like growth mode of MgO on Fe(110) resulting in dense MgO(111) films at room temperature as well as at 250 C. As observed by STM, initial deposition of MgO le...
